Alozaina

A window to the Sierra de las Nieves

Prologue:
Alozaina is one of the the nine municipalities of Sierra de las Nieves, between Tolox and Yunquera on the Ronda road A-366. It is a pleasant one hour trip from Marbella.  In early spring (Jan. - Feb.) you will see the almond trees in blossom and also the whole countryside coming to bloom.

      Directions:
  • Coming from Marbella A-7 take the exit on to A-355 towards the villages of Ojen and Coin
  • At the village of Monda take the turn off which leads you onto Ronda A-366 via the village of Guarro.
  • The drive leads you along the Rio Grande Valley.
Monda
As we reached Monda  we saw many Almond trees in blossom and a sweet smell and a humming sound filled the air as we stopped to have a look back to the village.

The drive proceeds along the very lush valley of the Rio Grande, and the Sierra de las Nieves facing you to the south-west.

The Andalusian countryside presents you with many different shades and hues of  all colours from greys to reds and greens.

Alozaina

The village stretches along a hilltop.

The village of Alozaina greets you with an Archway which was erected in 1951 to commemorate its Arab past.

 Alozaina has unusual long streets.

After the clouds have lifted the snow capped peaks of the Sierra de las Nieves
with its highest point of Torrecílla (1919m) appeared.

The village has many Viewpoints (Miradors)

An intriguing archway leads to a narrow side street.

Reaching the top of the hill the views are stunning.

You can see the Sierra de las Nieves to the south and the
Sierra Prieta to the west.

The  Torreón de María Sagredo are the remains of the old castle dating back to 15th century and it played an important role in the battles between Christians and the Moors.

This gateway leads to the park from where you will be presented with panoramic views.

Church of Santa Ana

The distance views east towards the coast of Málaga

Our recommendation, Bar Nuevo for lunch, good food and very reasonable. It is well worth going inside of the restaurant for the views from the panoramic window at the back.

Pork ragout with Jerez sauce
This are the views from  the large window.
