Our personal experiences when visiting the Pueblos Blancos,
and the surrounding countryside of Andalucía.

       Pueblos Blancos

Andalucía is known for its white villages (pueblos blancos). There are approximately 100 villages on the Costa del Sol alone. When you venture in land, from a far, you see them as white spots amongst the greens and browns of the country side. As you approach them they appear to be clinging to the cliff walls of hills and mountainsides. The focal point of the villages is the church tower and very often the remains of a castle which reminds you of the hidden past.
Each pueblo is unique with its own glorious (or not so) history, constructed by the Moors who arrived in Iberia in the 7th century and stayed for around 700 hundred years. Some villages even still have remains from the Romans and beyond.
Walking through the streets which are narrow, windy and mostly steep, you feel like you are wandering in a labyrinth, but somehow you will end up again in the church square. Don`t forget to visit the local museum, and most of the villages have placed colourful information tiles on the walls.
Are you getting hungry!! Try some of the village Inns (Tapas Bars) or restaurants (Ventas) on the roadside outside of the village.
The local Andaluz is very cheerful and proud of his pueblo, and will always have the time to help you and be willing to answer any question you might have, although sometimes, the dialect can be very hard to understand!

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
