Serranía de Ronda

Serranía de Ronda 

and its 23 municipalities is found in the western part of the Málaga Province, Andalusia, Spain.
Serranía de Ronda is known for it's natural and fairly unspoiled mountainous regions. 
The town of Ronda is perched on a high plateau and is the administrative headquarters also a tourist hot spot and one of the most visited town of the Province. It's long history,  architecture and Fiestas are known all over the world. 
But don't forget the many villages which make up the Serranía de Ronda. Only seen as white spots set on hillsides and surrounded by pine forests and chestnuts trees which are cultivated, and which provide a very important income for many municipalities in the region.
In the autumn the range of colours is a joy to behold.
Three Nature Parks can be found in Serranía de Ronda. Los Alcornocales to the west, Sierra de las Nieves to the east with its limestone escarpments and Sierra de Grazalema to the north reputedly one of the wettest region in Spain.

Genal river valley

Genal River Valley
The River Genal and it's valley form an important part of Serranía de Ronda region. It is a kind of natural monument. There are 15 municipalities around the Genal valley and they are divided in two parts, Higher and Lower Genal.
It's source (El Nacimiento) can be found just outside of the village of Igualeja and it enters into the River Guadiaro further south. The river valley covers an area of 42 000 hectares and it has been designated as a Nature Park.

Higher river valley municipalities include:
Igualeja, Pujerra, Parauta, Cartajima, Júzgar, Faraján and Alpandeire.

Lower river valley municipalities include:
Atajate, Benadalid, Benalauría, Algatocín, Benarrabá, Gaucín, Jubrique and Genalguacíl
