Monda

The Village of Monda

Prologue:
Just 20 minutes from the town of Marbella lays the small village of Monda.
Even allowing for its close proximity to the coast it has remained fairly unspoiled.
Monda is a lovely village in the region of Sierra de las Nieves and forms part of the Biosphere Reserve.
It is designated as a Picturesque Area, Historical Site and Asset of Cultural Interest.
Sitting at the foot of Cerro de la Villeta, it is  dominated by  Al Mudat Castle which is now  a 3 star hotel.
Some of its foundations and walls are original and date back to the times of the Romans and the Moors.

     Directions:
  • Coming from Marbella on the AP-7 take turn off towards Ojen A-355.
  • You will reach Monda after 16 km - 20 minutes.

As soon as you leave the AP-7 the roads winds leisurely uphill.
After 10 minutes  you can see the village Ojen on the mountain side.

We stopped at the viewpoint (Mirador real) to take a look at Ojen and back down towards the coast.

We take the first turnoff towards tje village of  Monda. You notice the majestic castle on the hill (Cerro de la Villeta) above the village

From middle January until middle February Almond trees are in blossom at this time which line the road leading into the village,

Past the public car-park you come to the old Public Wash Place
(Fuente Lavadero de la Jaula).

It has been beautifully restored.

Monda's streets are very typical of the white villages.

Old and new are still everywhere you look.

A lovely wood carved door.

There are many eating places in Monda. We decided to have lunch in the Restaurant De La Rubia which we enjoyed very much.
