Picnic spot Sierra Crestellina

Mirrador del Castellón and Refugio de Sierra Crestillina,
Casares, Málaga Province

The Mirador del Castillón set in the Sierra Crestellina nature area is still a hidden treat for hikers and nature lovers alike. The hike to the Viewpoint is a 6,5 km  leisurely hike from the village or if you take the more direct rout it is about 2,5 km on a steep rocky path.

When choosing this as a picnic spot you find yourself surrounded by outstanding natural beauty,  you will have 360º panoramic views and you sit under the watchful eyes of the birds of prey, especially  the Griffon Vultures. The Sierra Crestellina is one of the major natural habitats for these majestic birds.

From here you look south and towards the coast and the Campo de Gibraltar.

On a clear day you are able to see the Rock of Gibraltar and the African coast.

Below you see the view north, Sierra Crestellina to the left and Sierra Bermeja to the right.

The Refugio de Sierra Crestellina is ca. 500 meters from the viewpoint.
Here you find some picnic tables and benches on a sheltered terrace.

You might have to share your sandwiches with the goats!
